September 11, 2015 Grandparents' Day Fun!!!

We welcomed many grandparents to Wayne Center to spend time with their grandchild and see some of their learning.  We had breakfast together and then got to visit the classroom!  Fun!!!

We love our family!!!

September 4, 2015 Swimming Fun!!!

Each year third graders get to learn about water safety and basic swimming techniques.  On the last day, the students go through stations where they practice saving a person in trouble in the water.  Then they have free swim time.  Many get to go off the diving board, some for the first time. Everyone is excited to see how much they have learned in this one week!

Enjoy the pictures taken on our last swim day!

Not all the pictures in the video actually happened in the pool.  Watch for the fun additions!!!

August 25, 2015 Way to go, Natalie!!!

Each third grader will be writing their numbers to 1000 this school year.
Sounds like a big job, huh?
Well, lookie' who has completed her HUGE task!
Great job, Natalie!
A certificate, a candy bar, and a posting of your success is your reward!

August 24, 2015 Reader's Theater

Third graders performed two Reader's Theaters for their fourth grade friends.  The first play was "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". The second play was "Pop, Poppity, Pop!"  Then we enjoyed a treat!  What pops in your mind as a yummy treat to share?
Enjoy the YouTube video!!!

August 21, 2015 Salt, Sound, Science!!!

Here is a short YouTube video showing the students exploring the effects of pitch and volume of their voices on salt.  They saw the salt move.
You will see pictures that did not take place in the classroom in this video, too.  They do, however, connect with salt and salt harvesting.
Enjoy and don't forget the goggles!

August 14, 2015 Exploring Sound That Travels!

Students completed a Science investigation to discover and compare how sound travels through various types of matter.  They explored sound through a solid (a piece of wood), a liquid (a baggie with water in it), and a gas (a baggie filled air).

Which was louder, the sound through the solid, the liquid, or the gas?
Check it out, and be sure to wear your goggles!

August 13, 2015 Exploring our iPads!!!

Hey, did you see this?

Students enjoyed exploring their iPads for the first time today.
Some were on Math building skills.  Others refined their Language Arts skills with word apps.  A few students returned to the Lightbot app that teaches coding used in computer programming---at a very elementary level, but still fun!!!

WOW! What FUN!!!

August 12, 2015 Class fun!

Students found a frog on their desk when they arrived on Monday this week.  They read to the frog, named the frog, and wrote the frog a letter about themselves.

Each Friday, we have an extra recess.  Students work hard all week to earn this fun time! For our first recess, we explored some indoor recess games.
Careful....Is it going to fall???

Board games are fun!!!
